Restaurant: Talula’s Garden

In 2010 The Challenge Program was given the opportunity to expand our resume and revenue streams to include restaurant fit outs. When Aimee, the owner of beloved and innovative farm to table restaurant Talula’s Table and Stephen Starr took a chance on our program and selected us to be the contractors to fit out their new restaurant Talula’s Garden in Philadelphia.

The furniture we built for Talula’s Garden features salvaged redwood from the Vlasic Pickle Plant in Millsboro, DE, and a pink granite countertop salvaged from the old Wilmington Water Works.

21 Challenge Program trainees worked on the project, learning millwork and installation techniques while working on a high-profile commercial construction site. We are grateful to Aimee and Stephen for all the “street cred” we racked up by being a part of such a cool, creative project. And for continuing to book us for more exciting jobs including Talula’s Daily, Buddakan and other projects over the last 15 years. Restaurant fit outs make great Trainee work, giving them the chance to get faster and gain confidence and allowing them to see a project from start - preparing the lumber, - to finish - install.
