Art-O-Mat

In 2023, in partnership with the City of Wilmington and Wilmington Alliance, we completed extensive renovations to the site of a former laundromat and liquor store on a notoriously crime-ridden corner. Renamed Art-O-Mat, the property was re-purposed as an art gallery and community space for the neighborhood. Extensive renovations were completed by The Challenge Program’s crews, including removing the second floor and demolishing the adjacent building, which has been developed as an outdoor patio. Of note is that our instructor’s crew was entirely from the neighborhood and walked to the job every day. This project provided them with a sense of neighborhood pride, and the community is benefitting from their hard work every day.
