Queen Theatre
The Challenge Program contributed to the renovations at the historic Queen Theatre and is participating in the ongoing revitalization of Market Street in Wilmington.
For the Queen, we restored and reglazed all of the windows on the Market Street façade of the theatre and installed all of the windows on site. The theatre opened to the public on April 1, 2011 as World Café Live at the Queen.
As a part of the Challenge Program’s commitment to downtown Wilmington, we have contributed to the Market Street restoration initiative over the past few years. Due to our flourishing partnership with the Buccini/Pollin Group (BPG), we worked on 811 and 823 Market Street. Our most recent project was the restoration of the historic windows on the 400 block of Market Street.
Our partnership with BPG is a prime example of how working with local contractors enhances our training program. Our trainees have worked for BPG doing short-term “internships,” where they work on-site as part of BPG's construction crews for a week at a time. BPG has hired four of our trainees, including one who worked for the construction manager of the Queen Theatre renovations.
